Dr. Samantha Sula
Veterinarian
Dr. Sula’s love of animals started early. At just seven years old, she put together a presentation to convince her family to get a dog, and it worked. That first family dog sparked a dream of becoming a veterinarian that she never let go of.
For all the time Sam has spent on the water, one might be surprised she chose a career on land. She spent nine years as a competitive kayaker on the national and international stage, representing Team Canada at the Junior World Championships in South Africa and Romania in 2017. But even with a paddle in hand, her sights were always set on veterinary medicine. She volunteered at veterinary hospitals, worked on a dairy farm, and earned her Bachelor of Science Honours in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph before going on to complete her DVM at the Ontario Veterinary College.
Dr. Sula is no stranger to SOVH, having spent several summers here as a veterinary assistant before joining the team as a veterinarian. She was drawn back by the team’s experience, genuine dedication, and progressive approach to medicine, and says there’s nowhere else she’d rather be.
At SOVH, Dr. Sula is excited to translate her love of animals into outstanding patient care and build lifelong relationships with the clients and pets she serves. She finds it especially rewarding to support owners through stressful moments and help them feel at ease.
Outside of work, Dr. Sula loves Sunday dinners with her Italian family, pilates, hiking, and any chance to be near the water. She is joined at home by her adorable sidekick Ruby, a retired OVC teaching beagle. She loves both cats and dogs, but will admit she’s a dog person at heart, though a cat adoption is very much on the horizon.
